Woman soldier killed and dozens of soldiers wounded in a bus accident near Tel Zion

Serious accident at Kochav Hashachar: a woman soldier was killed and thirty soldiers injured in a bus which overturned today (Thursday) near Tel Zion.

Shortly after 12:00 pm, a car accident occurred on Route 446 between Kochav Hashachar and Migdalim. A bus with dozens of soldiers rolled onto its side. Large forces of MDA, Ichud Hatzalah and ZAKA arrived at the scene. A helicopter was flown to evacuate the wounded.

About 42 passengers who were on the bus were injured, including a young woman trapped under the bus and was fatally wounded. Seven were injured moderately and 21 lightly. The wounded are evacuated to hospitals in the region – ten reached Tel Hashomer, including two in fair condition, two moderately injured were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva by helicopter, two lightly wounded were evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, 12 casualties to Hadassah Ein Kerem and 15 to Mount Scopus in light condition, including the bus driver.

Palestinian reports said that a pipe bomb was thrown at the bus, but police claimed there is no suspected terrorist incident.

The IDF spokesman said that a woman soldier was killed and 40 other soldiers were injured in light and medium conditions during the rollover of the bus. This is a civilian bus in which 50 army soldiers and the driver turned over in the area of Kochav Hashachar during a trip from the army base to Jerusalem.

Menachem Leff, head of the 'Benjamin' branch of Ichud Hatzalah reported that "this is a bus which overturned into a ditch on the side of the road. Most of the injured are fully conscious and got out of the bus on their own. There are several trapped inside the bus. With the assistance of other volunteers from the motorcycle unit of Hatzalah we provided first aid to the wounded. Fire teams are operating to rescue the trapped".
