Shock in the Kiruv world: Rabbi Zamir Cohen, head of Hidabrut, was attacked tonight (Tuesday) at the Heichal David Synagogue in Tel Aviv, headed by member of the Council of Torah Sages Rabbi Moshe Maya.

Behadrey Haredim heard from eye witnesses that toward the end of the lecture given by Rabbi Zamir Cohen four people entered the synagogue who seemed to have come to ask for the rabbi's blessing.

But, astonishingly, they attacked the rabbi and his aides with severe physical and verbal violence.
The Rabbi's assistants smuggled him out quickly to his car, but the attackers struck the vehicle with a helmet and damaged the windshield.

"The rabbi's driver began to drive," says an eyewitness, "Rabbi Zamir's aide was physically injured - one of them threw a motorcycle helmet on his head, and then broke his glasses. We thought at first it was an attack and police were called."

One of those present said that the rioters shouted insults at the Rabbi: "You can not write their words down on paper," he said.

The violent attack came days after a heated confrontation in recent days. Rabbi Amnon Yitzhak sharply attacked Rabbi Cohen who called not to listen to his lessons. Rabbi Amnon's associates deny any connection to the attack.

Rabbi Cohen's associates and witnesses at the scene came to file a complaint with the Tel Aviv police.
