Russia continues to combat anti-Semitism, and this time through legislation banning extreme interpretation of the various texts of ancient holy books.
The law, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, passed second and third reading, and was accepted by the Duma and its implementation will take effect in the near future.
Under the new law any kind of extremist interpretation of a text from holy books is prohibited. The purpose of the new law is to put an end to the initiative of anti-Semites and other extremists, who every few years, were evoking an anti-Semitic storm by quoting parts of the holy books while deliberately distorting their interpretation to provoke anti-Semitism.
Chief Rabbi of Russia Hagaon Rabbi Berel Lazar, said: "I want to thank the President for the fact that he initiated the law, and the legislators who prepared the bill until it is approved. The new law demonstrates that this is a free country, which knows to respect believers and eternal values, which form the basis of human society. These are values, which for years provided the unity of the State as multinational and multi-ethnic. "
"The supporters of extremist ideologies always try to use misinterpretation for their own purposes, to throw dust in the eyes of the public and cause intrigue and unscrupulous schemes. Religion is based on the central idea that each of us is a creature of G-d and therefore, we should respect each other, help each other, live in peace with each other. This is the main thing that we learn from these holy books ", the words of the chief rabbi.
The new law is another step in a series of recent decisive action to eradicate anti-Semitism in Russia in its bud, among others recently a journalist who published a book against the Jews was arrested. According to reports and statistics constantly being made by professionals, Russia is indeed going to the bottom of the table of global anti-Semitism.
