A wave of terrorist attacks continued in Hebron over this Shabbos, Shabbat Chayei Sarah. A number of Jews were lightly wounded in two attacks. Thousands stayed in the city under heavy security.
Shortly before Shabbos, shots were fired at Jews in the area of the Cave of the Patriarchs, one of them about 20 years old, was taken in fair condition, another wounded of about 16 was taken in light condition.
An initial estimate is that this was sniper fire from one of the Palestinian neighborhoods overlooking the Tomb of the Patriarchs.
An hour later, after the start of Shabbos, terrorists fired at security forces in Beit Anun near Hebron, an IDF soldier was evacuated in serious condition to the trauma room at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
The soldier underwent surgery last night by the neurosurgical team and remains in a serious condition, with his life in danger.
He is sedated in the neurosurgery intensive care unit. Pray for: Yagel ben Chofit for complete recovery among the rest of ill.
At the end of quick intelligence and operational activities of ISA and the IDF, the terrorist was arrested on Friday night, a 16 year old resident of Bnei Na'im. He was interrogated by the GSS in the area, confessed to the shooting and turned in the gun with which he carried out the attack. He was taken for further investigation by the Shin Bet.
In another incident, on Shabbos morning, an IDF soldier was seriously wounded by a stray bullet of a friend.
Shabbat Chayei Sarah is a traditional Shabbat in Hebron, and it attracts thousands of visitors throughout the country, with particularly heavy security.
Mordechai Levy, volunteer of Ichud Hatzahah told at the end of Shabbos: "As on every year I came to spend Shabbos in Hebron in honor of Shabbat Chayei Sara and I heard the sound of gunfire. Within seconds I got to the scene and started to provide primary health care to both victims who suffered of gunshot wounds and were fully conscious. I was joined by other medical forces. After receiving initial medical treatment the casualties were evacuated to the intensive care unit at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem."
Levy added: "Following the incident, security forces ordered all worshipers into the cave, until after ma'ariv fearing for the safety of worshipers and another shooting.
"After the unfortunate incident, it may be noted that the Shabbos passed without incidents except for the riots which ended without casualties, thank G-d. The tense security situation caused a decline in the participation of worshipers from across the country in previous years, however thousands of worshipers were in the city on Shabbat Chayei Sarah".
Meanwhile, the condition of the haredi resident of Tel Zion stabbed on Friday afternoon at the gate of Benjamin, is improving and is set to moderate and stable.
He was stabbed near the Rami Levi supermarket, and was teated by Ichud Hatzalah drives and rescue teams of Magen David Adom, and taken with stab wounds in the back and chest to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
The family wish ask the public supplicate in prayer for Shmuel ben Hinda Zissel for refuah sheleima.
