Caught by miracle: resident of Gaza spied in Israel

Cleared for publication - Southern District Prosecution filed a short while ago at the District Court in Be'er Sheva an indictment against an Israeli citizen Nasrin bat Hassan, 40 years old, on suspicion of attempts of targeting synagogues and Israeli public institutions.

The suspect, a mother of seven children, conspired in Gaza with activists of Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, joined as an organization member and for money, spied for the organization in Israel, photographed strategic facilities in Haifa via mobile phone - including the Port of Haifa, police station and city court, recorded and documented news with the intent to harm the state security and gave the reports and photographs to the organization's activists upon her return to Gaza.

According to the facts of the indictment, since she married a resident of the Gaza Strip 15 years ago, she lived alternately in Gaza and Israel, when in the past year she was living in the Gaza Strip and entered Israel under the pretext of visiting relatives in Haifa.

Two years ago, Nasreen made contact with activists in Gaza with Katibat Almojhadin organization, which is a branch of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and she joined the organization in favor of tasks for the organization within the State of Israel. In this context, during the last two years, the defendant met with activists, received espionage tasks in Israel, among others photos of strategic facilities in the State of Israel, with an emphasis on governmental places.

Nasreen entered Israel through the Erez crossing and during her visit to Israel, she made observations and gathered information that documented the securing of the port of Haifa, Haifa train station, the Interior Ministry in the city, the police station and the Haifa court, as she lists the number of security guards in each location and activities during security checks.

The photographs were taken secretly, while she pretended to be on the phone or send text messages, with the intention not to attract attention. In addition, during the filming, the defendant, at the request of her dispatchers, checked security cameras placement positions, and recorded the information in writing, she also recorded in writing the number of visits that each structure has.

When she returned to the area of the Gaza Strip, the defendant gave the organization's activists in Gaza the memory card of her mobile phone and all the documentation in writing.

In addition, when the accused passed near a synagogue in the city, she examined its security to provide details to activists of Almoj'hdin and found that the synagogue is not secure at all. Shortly thereafter, the defendant met with Ali in his shop, where she told him about one recruiting attempt which failed and reported to him that she saw that in the synagogue on Hagiborim Street in Haifa there are many worshipers but there is no security in place.

In March 2015, reached the defendant arrived at a post for military training of the organization in Gaza, where they instructed her how to construct an explosive device with all the steps and she agreed to carry out an attack with the charge after she takes additional training in the preparation of an explosive device, thereby conspiring to aid the enemy in its war against Israel and making contact causing the deaths of Israelis anywhere in Israeli with the intent to harm state security.

The defendant was arrested at the Erez crossing two weeks ago. The indictment charges the defendant with four charges for committing offenses of aiding the enemy during wartime, passing information to the enemy with the intention of harming state security, conspiracy to assist an enemy in war, espionage, contact with a foreign agent, membership and activity in an unlawful association, conspiracy and more.

The Prosecution filed a request with the court to detain the defendant until the legal proceedings against her.
