Two wounded in attack in Jerusalem; One - Brisk Yeshiva student

On Friday, a stabbing attack occurred at Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem - two casualties at the scene, shots were fired at the terrorist and he was neutralized. Two of the wounded, including a yeshiva student, were evacuated to hospitals while conscious.

Reporting from the scene indicates that one of the wounded was shot in the attempt to neutralize the terrorist. Following the incident, the Jerusalem Light Rail was operating only between the stations of Mount Herzl and the Damascus Gate.

The attack occurred on Friday at around 13:00 on Bar Lev Blvd. near the Ammunition Hill. A 23 year-old Palestinian with a knife attacked a yeshiva student (a US citizen and student at Brisk Yeshiva) of 22, standing at the light rail station on Bar Lev Street near Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem, in his upper body.

The assailant tried to stab another citizen, without success. Border policeman, security guards of the light rail and civilians at the scene opened fire at the terrorist and he was seriously injured, as a result of gunfire another young man, an American tourist of about 20, was wounded in the leg. Hatzalah volunteers arrived on the scene and gave medical treatment to both the wounded and evacuated them to Shaarei Tzedek and Hadassah Hospitals in city.

Nahum Bernstein, deputy head of the Jerusalem branch of Ichud Hatzalah reported from the scene: "This is a Yeshiva student stabbed in the upper body. Together with other volunteers from the Hatzalah motorcycle unit we gave him primary health care and to another Jew who was shot. Shots were fired at the stabber. All casualties are fully conscious and suffering from stab and fire wounds."

Senior medic with MDA Boaz Ellinson who treated the stabbed casualty recalls: "When we arrived we saw a young man of about 22 who was fully conscious, he walked and suffered a stab wound to the upper body, we gave him primary health care at the scene and evacuated him quickly to the hospital, with his condition defined as moderate and stable. On the way he said he saw the terrorist running to him with a knife in hand, he started to run away but the terrorist ran after him and managed to stab him."

Earlier in the day there was an attack at the Tapuach intersection: Two terrorists were neutralized in the afternoon by Border Policemen, after attempting to carry out a stabbing attack.

Investigation of the incident indicates that at approximately 12:00 pm two terrorists riding a scooter arrived at the Tapuach checkpoint manned by Border Policemen. Before reaching the checkpoint the terrorist went down from the scooter with drawn knives, and pounced at a Border Guard officer at the roadblock. The woman fighter next to him realized what was happening and accurately fired at the terrorists who were neutralized.

The fighter was lightly injured and treated at the place. The border policewoman who neutralized the terrorists, is a new immigrant from France who immigrated to Israel to enlist.
