Marseille: Jew stabbed on his way to synagogue

Transnational terrorism: the phenomenon of stabbing haredi Jews and shouting 'Allahu Akbar' arrives in Marseilles, the city has a high concentration of haredi Jews, synagogues and haredi educational institutions in France.

A youngster attacked this morning (Friday) the rabbi of the synagogue Menuchat Shalom in Marseille and another haredi man on their way to morning prayers.

Rabbi Yehuda Malul Rabbi of the Bar Yochai shull in Marseille, tells Behadrey Haredim what had happened: "This is the rabbi of the synagogue Menuchat Shalom in the city center and one of the shull members, who were on their way to synagogue for shachris. Passing through downtown, they were attacked by a young man of Arab appearance".

"The young man shouted "Yahud, Allah Akbar' and attacked the rabbi with his fists while shouting 'Itbah al-Yahud', and the rabbi fell to the floor. A Jew who went to the side of the rabbi tried to protect him, but the young man pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the abdomen. The Rabbi Baruch Hashem was not hurt and continued to shull, but the Jew who was stabbed was rushed to the emergency room, where doctors said it was a real miracle, and that the knife was blocked due to the heavy coat he was wearing, and if not for the coat, the injury could have been critical."

Rabbi Malul says, "The police seized the young perpetrator, and it turned out he was released a few days ago from prison." He said, "Here in Marseille it's not like Paris, we had no anti-Semitic incidents, and this incident happened at a time of stabbings in Israel is frightening, especially since the stabber arrested by police after stabbing, then continued to curse the Jews."

Tomorrow (Sunday) the Jewish community will hold a large rally of support for Israel. The rally is scheduled to take place in the center of Marseille and the marchers will walk to the city's Jewish consulate.
