Tzanzer Rebbe burst into tears: "How many orphans and families sit down now for shiva"
Listen to the moving words of the Rebbe of Tzanz before second Hakafos to Hassidim: "Now after Yom Tov it is difficult to dance. At a time that Jews are suffering, that Jewish blood was spilled in the streets, how many orphans and families are sitting now in mourning for their loved ones. How can one dance?"
- Moshe Weisberg
- כ"ד תשרי התשע"ו
At the event of the customary second Hakafos in Tzanz - in which thousands of Hassidim from across the country take part and which serve as one of the supreme occasions of the Hasidus, the Rebbe spoke tearfully due to the recent attacks.
At the start of Hakafos, with his voice choked with tears, the Rebbe suddenly started speaking and said: "It is very difficult in the current situation with dancing and joy, on Yom Tov we are commanded of Simchas Torah, but now after the holiday it is difficult to dance when Jews are suffering, when Jewish blood was spilled in the streets, home many orphans and families are sitting down for shiva for their loved ones. How can one dance? But we have the words of our sages who said that the Hakafos after Yom Tov are greater than during the Yom Tov itself. My elder the Bnei Yisochor of Dynov they now sang the song 'Torah hakedosha, hischaneni bevakosho', so too we will dance now and ask the holy Torah to have mercy on us, "and eternal life He has planted within us", the Torah is the biggest defense counsel that we have."
The Rebbe continued: "We do not have Honi Hame'agel in our generation who would say "I will not move from here until You have mercy on us". We should accept upon ourselves to strengthen the hasmodah in the study of Torah. This is the only consolidation and the most powerful we have left in this generation. Torah and Torah again." At the end of his words, the Rebbe instructed to sing 'Torah hakedosha' all together. These were minutes of vibration and a Divine atmosphere.
On Hoshanah Rabba too, when the Rebbe came to the words 'Hoshana haharuga alecha', the Rebbe said: "Look Hashem, people are being killed for You, in Your home, near Your home," and shed rivers of tears while saying the Hoshanos in a Yiddish translation.
