Congregation 'Mevasseret' found synagogue collapsed in fire

On Simchas Torah morning, a fire broke out inside the synagogue in Mevasseret Zion. Upon receipt of notice four fire teams and a fire crane from the Beit Shemesh station were dispatched to the scene.

Fire fighters began operations in the synagogue while protecting surrounding buildings.

During the extinguishing of the fire, the ceiling collapsed and by miracle there were no injuries .A short while later, fire fighters managed to extinguish the flames in the synagogue that burned down completely and prevented the fire spreading to nearby buildings. Fire fighters entered the synagogue in order to save the Torah scrolls. After a short time they rescued the Torah scrolls and transferred them to residents.

The fire fighters managed to rescue some Sifrei Torah, and some were badly damaged. The Beit Shemesh fire and rescue set up a special investigation team to investigate the circumstances of the fire which broke out.

An initial investigation shows that the fire apparently broke out by an electrical failure which occurred in the synagogue. Fire and Rescue investigators of Beit Shemesh are still collecting testimony and evidence for the denial of additional leads.
