The Shin Bet and police arrested four Palestinians from the village of Sur Baher on suspicion of the terrorist attack on Rosh Hashanah – in which Alex Levlowitz Hy"d was killed. The four confessed.

Tonight (Saturday night) it has been released, that the General Security Service in cooperation with the central unit and the special forces, detained for questioning four young people aged 16-19, residents of the village of Sur Baher in East Jerusalem, with an Israeli identity card bearing the status of resident, on suspicion of involvement in the murder attack through stone throwing, on Rosh Hashanah this year, where Alexander Levlowitz Hy"d was murdered and two other women were wounded.

"We as a family would like to thank the Israel Police and security forces on the determination and dedication which brought to the capture of the murderers of our dear father Alexander Levlowitz z"l," said a statement on behalf of the family. "But the task has not yet been completed. It is important to aggravate punishment of the stone-throwers and bring them to justice since a stone can kill. Either through legislation or through prosecuting the killers and those who activate them. We're talking about a murderous attack on nationalistic grounds and we as a family and as a nation can not deal lightly with them".

The four arrested are: Mohamed Salah Mohammed Abu Kaf 18 years old. Walid Atrash Mustafa Firas, 18. Abed Mahmoud Rabbu Dawiyat, 19, and another 16 year old minor details of whom are prohibited for publication.

During interrogation the four said that they went out to carry out terrorist acts specifically on Rosh Hashanah, and positioned themselves so that they could throw stones at passing vehicles optimally, and notice the Israeli identity of vehicle drivers.

Superintendent Yigal Elmaliah, head of the Central Unit's investigations section of Jerusalem

Abed Dawiat, the terrorist who threw the stone that struck the car of the late Alexander Levlowitz added under questioning that he went out for the attack while wearing a Hamas flag, which he received as part of his participation in the rally "Al-Aqsa in danger" in Umm al-Fahm before the attack.

After throwing stones at several vehicles, they hit the car of Alexander Hy"d, which veered off course, crashed into a tree and later he died from the fatal injury. After observing the results of the attack, the four fled the scene, later met and coordinated their stories in case they were caught.

GSS interrogation of the four is ongoing. Investigation material of their case will be transferred to the Jerusalem District Attorney to file charges. Members of the squad reconstructed the act.

"This serious attack, with its difficult results, reflects the high level of threat from terrorism with an emphasis on stone-throwing in Jerusalem," says the Shin Bet, "and illustrates the need for stricter penalties against stone-throwers, including a thorough treatment of minors involved in these attacks."
