On the Eve of Rosh Hashanah 5776, Israel's population is estimated at approximately 8.412 million. Since Rosh Hashanah last year Israel's population grew by approximately 158 thousand - an increase of 1.9%, similar to recent years.
The Jewish population numbers approximately 6.300 million (74.9% of the population), the Arab population - approximately 1.746 million (20.7%) and the population of 'others' numbers 366 thousand (4.4%).
According to population projections expected between the years 2025-2030 the number of residents who live in Israel will surpass 10 million.
During the year 168 thousand babies were born in Israel, and about 42 thousand people died.
About 32 thousand people were added to the population by migration balance. Of these, approximately 28 thousand are new immigrants. This number represents an increase of 35% compared to the previous Jewish year. Most of the immigrants came from Ukraine (26%), France (25%), Russia (21%) and the US (9%).
