Construction of a fence on the Israel-Jordan began

Heavy machinery of the Ministry of Defense began this morning (Sunday) land development works, on which will be formed the "eastern fence". The work is lead by Head of Seam Council and of "Hourglass", Brigadier Eran Ofir, who managed the project for construction of the fence along the Egyptian border and the Golan Heights. At the same time, the Engineering and Construction Division of the Defense Ministry has started publication of tenders for the entire project.

According to the government decision, the length of the section to be built is about 30 kilometers from Eilat to the Sands of Samar (north of Timna). Construction contracts totaling NIS 300 million will be a year-long, from a dedicated budget which the government transferred to the Defense Ministry. The works begin in record time, less than a week after passing the budget.

The barrier which will be erected will include an advanced fence, based on the model of the fence erected along the Egyptian border and the Golan Heights, a roads system, observation towers, war rooms and other advanced means. The works will also include the establishment of special protection in the Ilan Ramon Airport, currently being built near Timna.

Project planning gave much consideration to the unique multi terrain of prairie and minimizing damage to the environment, in conjunction with the Environmental Protection officials. Among other things, hydrological solutions have been developed, which will enable its establishment in the Willow Creek route, many water crossings for a resilient barrier, ecological passages for animals, as well as corrosion prevention solutions, due to the proximity to the sea.
