Mourning in the Jewish Home party this morning (Thursday): the late Jim Bennett z"l, the father of the Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett Minister of Education, died at the Rambam hospital in Haifa.
Jim was born in the United States in 1941, got married and came to Israel to volunteer on Kibbutz Dafna in the north after the Six Day War. He decided to immigrate to Israel and settle in Haifa.
A mourning statement issued by the Ministry of Education stated, "Bennett fought in artillery on the Yom Kippur War and Peace for Galilee War, he worked at the Technion and as an envoy of the Jewish Agency, and then established his own business. Jim Bennett was a Zionist in every fiber of his soul, who loved his people and his family."
He is survived by his wife, three sons and ten grandchildren.
Notice of the time of the funeral will be announced later in the day.
