Investigators from the Antitrust Authority of India came to the conclusion that Google has abused its dominant position in online advertising, which joins a series of regulatory issues faced by the American technology company worldwide.
The Antitrust Authority of India began investigating Google in 2012, and focused mainly on Adwords, the company's advertising service. As part of the process, the agency's interrogation arm has completed a preliminary report, a copy of which reached the Financial Times. According to the report, Google has made a number of violations of antitrust law.
The Indian investigation takes place while Google is preparing for an ongoing legal battle with the European Commission, which accused the company earlier this year in promoting unfairly its shopping services in the search results.
Also, it is due to other investigations in the antitrust field over the years, including the groundbreaking decision in the USA which acquitted the company of charges of unfair prioritizing its products using the search engine.
The Indian government is investigating four complaints against Google, two of which appear in the report. These were filed by a marriage website in the name of Bharat Matrimony and the Association for Consumer Protection.
The report, which numbers 714 pages, came to the conclusion that Google prioritizes its services in search results.
According to Google, it is reviewing the report but disagrees with many of the findings, and claims that it complies "fully" with the Indian antitrust law.
