Tragedy on Shabbos: young man from Betar Illit drowned in reservoir

Tragedy on Shabbos: a young man of 19 from Betar Ilit, drowned morning (Shabbos) in a reservoir near the town of Achia in Binyamin.

On Shabbos morning, a little before 10:00, a 19-year-old young man was drawn out of a cistern close to Achia, after dipping with his friend. Medics and paramedics of MDA carried out resuscitation and after returning his pulse, he was taken by a military helicopter in serious condition to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem - where he was pronounced dead.

Initial investigation of the Judea and Samaria District Police revealed that the youngster left this morning with two friends (minors) for immersion in a cistern the entry to which y is possible for one person at a time. The late entered last, and when he did not come out, his friends went to look for him in the spring. They called for help from the Geulat Tzion synagogue, and after searching the 19-year-old was found at the bottom of the cistern.

"When I got near the entrance of a deep well, a 19 year old man was lying unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, his friends who were there told us he drowned in the well and was rescued, they performed basic resuscitation on him until we arrived," said MDA paramedic Inbal Weberman.

"We continued with advanced resuscitation which included medications, respiration, massages and electric shocks and when the pulse returned the youngster was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital by a military helicopter dispatched to the scene."
