Haredi youngster killed while riding a bicycle on Route 40

A cyclist, 18 year-old resident of Bnei Brak, was injured tonight (Tuesday), from a passing vehicle on Route 40 near Be'erot Yitzchak. MDA staff and Ichud Hatzalah volunteers tried to save his life and gave him lengthy resuscitation, but then, sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the accident, Hatayassim junction between Ben Gurion Airport and Petah Tikva has been blocked to traffic. Central District Police and traffic testers arrived on the scene. Circumstances of the accident are investigated by examiners of the executive arm of the traffic department. ZAKA volunteers headed by Haim Otmazgin were called to the scene and took care of honoring the deceased.

The victim's brother, called the mobile phone of the victim which was held by the policeman. The last asked the caller who he was looking for, and when he said he was looking for his brother and gave his details, he was told that he was involved in an accident, and he should come to the hospital, where he was informed about the bad news.

Yeshayahu Menat, ZAKA volunteer, said, "This is a very serious accident, we arrived at the scene of the accident, a cyclist was lying on the road, lifeless, the bike was dozens of meters from the deceased. The circumstances of the accident are examined. The Sharon ZAKA team took care of the deceased of gathering up findings."

Avi Marcus paramedic of Union Hatzalah said: "When I reached the scene I came across a cyclist who was unconscious and without a pulse and not breathing after being hit by a car. Together with other volunteers from the motorcycles unit of Ichud Hatzalah we tried to save his life, and gave him CPR until the arrival of the ICU team who were forced to confirm his death. The driver did not need medical attention."
