Lakewood agitated: representative of the Ministry of Education of the State of New Jersey Michael Ezra announced this week for the Association of Institutions "(the umbrella organization of the educational institutions in Torah Lakewood) that due to budget cuts, the separate shuttle for boys and girls of private education will be eliminated.

Because the ultra-Orthodox schools are defined as private education, decision means that the children will have to travel to the Talmud Torah in a shuttle with the Beit Yaakov girls, or non-Jewish boys and girls studying in private schools.

Apart from this there will be only one shuttle ride one morning and in the afternoon, which means that the children of 1st – 3rd grades, finishing earlier will have to learn till four o'clock when older children finish their studies in higher grades.

The new arrangement will come into effect as early as September; the Institutions Union has 30 days to appeal the decision in court.

According to information received by Behadrey Haredim, there is great resentment among officials of Lakewood, and they're going to turn to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie who announced Friday his decision to join the race for the presidency in the next election.

Lakewood claim Christi supported in the elections by most Haredi community will not allow himself to give up the votes of the ultra-Orthodox.

"You have to remember that this is an arbitrary decision that would hurt ten thousand children, and thousands of religious families, some of whom will be forced to change their daily schedule to transport children from school to school, it is unfair that Lakewood residents pay taxes so high, and will not get a budget for transportation for children. We will not remain silent, "said Rabbi Yeshayahu Kaplan, a resident of Lakewood who his five children learn in chederim around Lakewood.

In a letter sent to the Ministry of Education Institutions Association proposals were "realistically unscientific ", which cannot be implemented and to prevent thousands of children the opportunity to enjoy the urban shuttle. In case the Ministry of Education will not change its decision, Lakewood Institutions will have private transportation that will cost parents a lot of money.
