First Convention Authority: two years after it was officially recognized, the Vatican signed today (Friday), the first treaty with the Palestinian Authority. This Convention is concerning the recognition of 67 borders and responsibilities and activities of the Church in the Palestinian Authority. Last month the two sides signed an agreement in principle of the Convention, and Israel condemned it.
Foreign Ministry expressed regret: "the decision of the Vatican to officially recognize the Palestinian Authority as a state, as part of the overall agreement was signed today."
"The hasty move violates the chances of reaching a peace agreement and the international experience is harmful to convince the Palestinians to return to negotiating table in order to manage direct talks with Israel. We regret also the unilateral formulations agreement recognizes the rights of the Jewish people in Israel and Jewish holy places in Jerusalem.
"Israel cannot accept the unilateral determinations agreement does not take into account the vital interests of the State of Israel and the unique and historical status of the Jewish people in Jerusalem.
"Israel will learn the details of the agreement and its implications for the quality of future cooperation between Israel and the Vatican."
