After the interview given by Hamas terrorist Abdullah Barghouti to a Gaza radio, prison authority succeeded tonight to locate the cell phone used by Barghouti for the interview. The device was found in Ramon prison in a laundry area.
It is estimated in the prison, that the cell phone was most likely smuggled into the jail by inmates. IPS decided in the wake of the interview, to transfer Barghouti to solitary confinement, and he will be put up for a disciplinary hearing.
During the interview Barghouti turned to Hamas and called for the organization not to rush to reach a deal on the issue of prisoners.
The interview given by Barghouti, to the Palestinian radio-Rai Gaza, although forbidden to give interviews and talk on the phone, was designed to embarrass the supreme commanders of the IPS and in that sense, "he achieved his goal," said a senior officer.
Barghouti, who is serving 67 life sentences, began a hunger strike, Palestinian Minister of Prisoners Issa Karaka said.
Over a year ago two security prisoners who are affiliated with Hamas and serving long prison sentences in jail "Ketziot" were indicted, in respect of offering bribes totaling thousands of shekels to the guard to put cell phones in prison for Hamas.
