Because of Deri and Kahlom: Begin resigned from the government
פלאש 90

Less than a month after the 34th government was sworn in, Minister Benny Begin (Likud) retired at noon (Sunday) from the government, following their demand that the coalition partnership increase the number of ministers over 20.

Recall, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Begin at the last minute before the government was sworn in, the role of Minister without Portfolio.

With the joining of Erdan to the government last Monday, the government counted 21 ministers - as opposed to the coalition agreement with the political parties in the government partnership. Those who were strongly opposed to raise the number of ministers were Chairman Minister Moshe Kahlon and Minister Shas chairman Aryeh Deri.

Last Friday, Minister Benny Begin said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in his resignation from the government, after previously announcing his intention to do so. According to the law, the minister's resignation comes into effect in respect of 48 hours from submission of a letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.

It should be noted that the Minister Begin joined Likud in the last election after Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon urged him to take part in the Likud leadership - in particular the security and political issues. Begin wanted very much to be a member of the security cabinet, but for now will have to wait until the government might be attached later or to a smaller kitchenette.
