The terrorist from the Mount of Olives planned to attack in Mea Shearim

Cleared for publication: joint activity of the General Security Service in cooperation with the Jerusalem District of the Israel Police, decoded the trampling attack on the Mount of Olives on the Kohanim Axis, a-Tur neighborhood in Jerusalem, carried out on Saturday night, 6th of Iyar about three weeks ago. 4 Border Police were wounded, mildly to moderately.

The evidence collected at the scene and during the investigation indicates that its perpetrator is Fadi Majdi Mohammed Saleh, 31, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp, who carries an Israeli identity card, carried out the suicide attack which was racially motivated.

Saleh fled after the scene of the attack, as he abandoned his car and fled into hiding. They tried to arrest him at his home that night failed, but the next day (April 26), he turned himself over to Israeli police, and was taken to interrogation by the GSS.

Before his arrest Saleh tried to interfere with the investigation, by means of false versions in coordination with his family.

Investigation also showed that the overriding premeditated attack, which was carried out after the terrorist contemplated over several places, including the neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem or Ashdod. In practice, the decision on the implementation of A-Tur neighborhood was received on the spot, after identifying an opportunity, and accelerated his vehicle at Border Police.

It should be noted that the vigilance of the border policemen who were present, prevented serious and fatal injury to a large group of police officers.

This trampling attack, carried out ten days after another terror attack in Jerusalem (15 April) near French Hill, and which killed Shalom Sharki z"l and wounded Shira Klein, shows the high threat level and the great risk of individual hazards, in particular in the city of Jerusalem, and the need for ensuring justice with all those involved in these attacks and strengthen deterrence against such attacks.

Yesterday (Tuesday) a declaration was filed demanding the Jerusalem Magistrates Court, the arrest of terrorist Fadi Majdi Muhammad Saleh which was extended until the end of the week ahead of an indictment in the case.
