Yaktar appealed to Supreme Court - evacuate tents at Meron

Man of Meron, the activist Araleh Yaktar, filed today (Sunday) a petition against the illegal construction of tents at the complex of the tomb at Meron, tents for which no licenses were submitted.

The urgent petition for an order nisi was submitted through Advocate Amit Ben Zvi against the Minister of Religious Services - MK Naftali Bennett, Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Israel Police of the Northern District Commander Zohar Dvir, the National Center for holy places in Israel, Regional Council Merom Hagalil and the Planning and Building Council Chairman.

According to the petition, these entities are required to evacuate all the tents, trailers, containers and any other structure constructed or placed, both with and without permission, by private entities or others at the tomb of the Rashbi mountain area - and all before the Lag B'Omer events this year.

"The petitioner is a 'man of Meron' who has been working for 20 years at the tomb compound in connection with the coming of masses to the tomb, all year long and especially on Lag Ba'omer, and is a member of the organization of the celebration of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, held annually on Lag B'Omer in the yard of the tomb," the petition states.

In the grounds the petition states that in a summary document and learning of lessons and preparing Meron for Lag BaOmer of 2014, "It was decided by police officials led by the commander of the Northern District of the Israel Police, that tents will be set up in the complexes outside the compound of the mountain in order to prevent fear of collapse and suffocation."

It is clarified in the petition that most of the public which arrives at the celebration of Lag B'Omer and wishes to be near the perimeter of the mountain days prior to the hillula, rents vacation rentals in the Moshav and does not harm the public this way at all or risk it. On the other hand, there is a handful of families, who for one reason or another, do not rent rentals or any other accommodation unit and settles in Meron mountain in a manner which is endangering the public.
