The day after the big 'bankruptcy' of the Haredi Society for Check Cashing in Bnei Brak, Yaakov Domb, his lawyer Elkanah Bischitz spoke with Behadrey Haredim.
"He left the country, according to rumor it's tens of millions," says Bischitz, and explains: "People whose livelihood breaks down may be dangerous people. In recent days, he is under great pressure a human being can not cope with. These pressures will only increase".
However, Behadrey Haredim learned that apparently Domb did not leave Israel, and is hiding somewhere until the storm passes.
"People think that maybe money grows on trees, the lend one another. Where did all the millions go? A lot of people enjoyed it, everyone in the circle. Whoever was stung, allegedly, are people who deal in ex-banking loans, who want to get a higher interest rate, and those somehow did not think of something called guarantees".
"In Bnei Brak and in the Haredi sector in particular, people think they invented the wheel, loans and investments at higher interest rates. The largest banks in the country and around the world, all take guarantees properly, but in our change points unfortunately, there are no guarantees, people rely on those who daven in shull, on family, and are confident that he won't steal just because of the Torah commandment "lo tignov". What happened is that he gained a growing debt, until he could no longer deal with it."
Bischitz goes on to blame the Haredi sector investment culture: "Every Shabbos has a Motzaei Shabbos, Those who did not attend the army didn't learn this rule. The Haredi sector does not hear a lot of the concept of bankruptcy. Anyone who lost his money is soon labeled as a "stinger and a thief". This is money that many people enjoyed, and it is over."
At the same time, Domb sent messages to people with whom he worked, where he wrote that he was sorry for what happened, "I caused many of you very great sorrow that I can not describe." He writes further: "Despite my intention to stand and fight for things, I received advice of good and dear friends to leave the country and move to another country. I'm sorry for all the damage I caused each of you and hope you find the place to forgive me."
