Police Chief: "Sharky's run over - terrible attack"

Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino commented on Shabbos the run over attack in Jerusalem where Shalom Sharki hy"d was murdered and the young woman Shira Klein was injured.

The attack took place on Wednesday night, the terrorist, Khaled Kotina, 37, from the village of Anata, came with his vehicle from the direction of the national headquarters towards the French Hill, went off course and hit those standing at the station, then the vehicle reversed, hit a traffic light pole, and stopped.

Two who were at the station, Shalom Yochai Sharki hy"d (26) who was critically injured and died after a few hours, and Shira Klein bat Adele Ada (23) who was seriously injured, and is hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Hadassah University Hospital while sedated and on a respirator.


Danino, who appeared at a cultural event over Shabbos in Beersheba said, "One can say with certainty that the run over event was in fact a terrorist attack, in recent years we have seen such events in which a person takes his car and turns it into a murder tool. This is a terrible event. Any event of this type in which we have killed and injured is a terrible event," said the Police Commissioner.

"In Jerusalem we have experienced in recent months a number of nationalistic terrorist events. It can be said today in a very based way this is a harsh and terrible attack. Jerusalem is a place where it was always not simple to maintain the personal safety of the residents of the capital ".

"From the moment we had the sequence I made a decision to bring to Jerusalem 1000 police officers. This improved the security situation in Jerusalem. Secondly, we made sure to keep the quiet at the Temple Mount."

On Thursday the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended the arrest of the suspect terrorist in the incident and who claims that it was an innocent accident, by five days.

Shira Klein's condition is still serious but stable, it was said by Hadassah Hospital. She is sedated and in the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem. The family asks the public to continue to pray for Shira bat Adele Ada for refuah sheleima.
