Rabbi Rabi Pinto appeared this morning (Tuesday) at the Tel Aviv District Court, the approval of his plea agreement against the prosecution. Rabbi admitted in operating charges - bribery of Chief Superintendent Bracha and obstruction of justice, and convicted by the court. In response to the judge the Rabbi said - "I confess".

The prosecution asked for a delay in order to leave the country and therefore upheld an order until the next to be held on the 28th of the month, when the sentencing phase will begin. Rabbi's attorney requested that the penalty phase deliberations, or at least some of them, will be held in camera. For its part the prosecution asked for the rabbi's medical file at Ichilov Hospital where he was hospitalized yesterday, upon his arrival to Israel.

When the judge decided to delay the issuance of an order to leave the country, the rabbi's lawyer argued that in less than a month the Rabbi must undergo surgery in the United States, the judge in response said "Maybe he is here today, but we know his attendance history". Finally, as noted, the judge decided that the rabbi will remain in Israel and will order an exit warrant detention until further notice, under court supervision, at least until the sentencing phase.

Among other things, at the hearing it came up that during the sentencing phase Elie Wiesel will testify against the Rabbi, and the lawyer asked that he be allowed to testify without having to come to Israel.

As mentioned, the indictment against the Rabbi was submitted in Elul Tsha"d, when the prosecution reached a plea bargain with the Rabbi's lawyers. According to the prosecution arrangement he may spend a year in jail.

The Rabbi's yeshiva Shuva Yisrael said in response: "spiritual leader, Rabbi Rabi Pinto, appeared in court today with his head high and up to honor the plea agreement he signed with the government. In contrast to estimates cynicism of the Tel Aviv District Attorney, Pinto came to Israel and attendance discussion was made before he received the letter of discharge from the Department of Cardiology at Ichilov Hospital, where he passed catheterization yesterday. Despite his medical condition and being an unhealthy person suffering from a variety of diseases, Pinto is determined to manage the legal battle regarding penalty against him".
