Veniziah Jewish community in Ukraine were horrified to discover in the midst of the Yom Tov of Pesach that the ancient cemetery was vandalized, tombstones were uprooted and bones were sent to the trash.
City Rabbi, Rabbi Shaul Horowitz, tells of shock when they came to the place in the morning of Chol Hamoed: "For a long time city officials have wanted to build a building with 6 floors, a few years ago we were able to avoid the sector but now on yom tov they took advantage of the fact that we celebrate and smashed the headstones and loaded tractors with bones and trucks cleared them off to a garbage site ".
Chairman of Ohalei Tzaddikim Rabbi Meir Gabbai, came from Mezibuzh to Veniziah to meet with the developers and see how to save the Jewish cemetery to save and preserve whatever is still possible to preserve.
