"We are shocked by the terrible disaster," says a family acquaintance to Behadrey Haredim, after the tragedy in Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, in which Sassoon family members, who previously lived in Israel, passed away.
The family acquaintance, Alon Deri, resident of Maalot Dafna, tells Behadrey Haredim, "The Sassoon family members are Halabi-Syrian. A good family, yiras shamayim, they have sweet children. They were living in the past in Har Nof, Jerusalem and then in Ramat Eshkol.
"Two years ago they moved to New York, since the mother wanted to be closer to her family. The parents are G-d fearing, warm, people of chessed both physically and with their money. The children were educated in the Beis Yaakov in North Jerusalem, and Talmud Torah Chochmat Shlomo in Ramat Shlomo.
"We are in shock and disbelief at the terrible catastrophe. It's hard to take. We have not spoken, because it's still Shabbos there. We still do not know when the funerals will be and whether they will be brought to Israel.
"I call on everyone to pray for the mother, Gila bat Zipporah, and the girl Zipporah bat Gila, who are in a difficult condition."
