US Army announced that it killed a senior operative in the al-Shabab terror in Somalia, during an attack by unmanned aircraft six days ago. This information was received from the Pentagon.
The senior, Adan Gerar, was involved according to estimations in the attacks at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, more than two years ago in September 2013, when a group of armed terrorists attacked the mall, killed 66 people and injured hundreds.
The radical Islamic terrorist organization "Al-Shabab" is a Somali organization affiliated with al-Qaeda, and has about 8,000 soldiers with experience in guerrilla warfare, equipped with money and the best weapons. Its leader is Ahmed Omar Abu Obeid after his predecessor Ahmed Gudan was assassinated in early 2014 by an air strike of the United States.
A month ago, the organization claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack in Somalia's capital Mogadishu, killing at least 25 people - including the deputy mayor of Mogadishu and two MPs. Among the dozens wounded were two ministers who were not seriously injured.
Al-Shabab controlled parts of the capital Mogadishu between 2007 and 2011, but the African Union forces were able to push him from the capital of Somalia and other major cities.
