Tens of thousands of people attended this evening (Monday), a show of support for yeshiva students released yesterday from military prison after refusing to appear at the recruitment center.
Tens of thousands of people took part in the procession and support event for four yeshiva students of Ponevez and Grodno Yeshivas released yesterday (Sunday) from the Zrifin jail.
The rally procession started with a huge parade from 19:00 pm accompanied by an orchestra of 'kleizmerim', and passed the Bar-Ilan - Shmuel Hanavi streets to Yechezkel Street.
Speakers at the rally were Rabbis and Roshei Yeshiva and even a song was composed with the words "we won't show up at the recruitment center - to prison we shall go to sanctify G-d's name."
Hagaon R' Shmuel Auerbach, who was the keynote speaker at the demonstration said: "From inside and out they get up to destroy us. The boys who made a Kiddush Hashem in the military prison are some light which will chase away the darkness. Together with the great joy that we have with these bochurim, we must know that the terrible decree is still in progress and one should do everything to change it."
Talmud Torah children also attended the demonstration, marching in a special procession.
The number of participants surprised even the organizers themselves who did not expect tens of thousands of people, mostly from the Bnei Torah party - the Jerusalem branch, and the Eida Hareidis.
