A 15.5-year-old resident of Beit Hanina arrested on suspicion of two stabbings in Jerusalem, will be brought today (Monday) to extend his detention.
As recalled, a week and a half ago on the Seventeenth of Tevet, a 21 year old yeshiva student was stabbed with a screwdriver near the Damascus Gate, on his way to the Western Wall on his birthday. The attacker fled into the Old City and the next morning during scanning of cameras that lasted all night, the suspect was identified by police on Haguy Street and was arrested by police the Temple Mount and Border Guard officers in the Old City.
The suspect was interrogated by the Central Unit of Jerusalem, during his interrogation he kept silent and refused to cooperate with investigators.
Central Unit investigators conducted further actions and collected evidence from the scene of the attack, in addition they identified properties similar to another stabbing attack carried out on Hanevi'im Street on 23rd Cheshvan, where a Breslov yeshiva student, 32-year-old, was stabbed in his back, also with a screwdriver, and the attacker fled toward Damascus Gate.
As part of the evidence gathered by the Central Unit investigators, the suspect's DNA samples were found in both arenas of stabbing as well as his fingerprints.
It further arose from the investigation that the suspect knows well the Old City and the Damascus Gate areas, where his family reside and his father's place of work is. In addition, it emerged that the youngster is in school in the Old City and has a good knowledge of its alleys, to which he escaped after each stabbing event.
As stated, the suspect will be brought today at 12:00pm to Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, to extend his detention with the prosecutor's statement with intent to file charges against him for two stabbing attacks.
