Following the wave of attacks in France, ZAKA volunteers arrived in the country to help treat the bodies of Jews killed and maintain dignity for the dead.
On Sunday at 13:20 Paris time, ZAKA finished the blood collection and burial findings at the Hyper Kosher" in 4 bags.
At 22:00 tonight ZAKA volunteers will board the victims' coffins on a flight en route to Israel for burial.
ZAKA volunteer in Paris, Avraham Weinberg, tells Behadrey Haredim: "The ZAKA team - I, Rabbi Zemach Ben-Naim and Rabbi Menachem Peretz, came in, the scene was very harsh, what stood out as soon as we came in was the scenery, as if time stood still, supermarket carts full of goods for Shabbos, just awaiting the cashiers to make an account and pay, deliveries to be sent home and underneath them - huge puddles of blood of the murdered".
In antensive study of ZAKA delegation and the president of the Chevra Kadisha in France it became clear that in the attack which occurred last week in the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo there were 3 Jews killed Hy"d, and not as was originally thought that only one Jew was killed. Today (Monday) ZAKA volunteers and Chevra Kadisha in Paris will do their holy work at the Forensic Institute in Paris to prepare the bodies for burial in Israel.
Mati Goldstein, ZAKA delegation leader, adds: "After a complex activity of ZAKA Chairman Yehuda Meshi-Zahav, the Foreign Ministry and Jewish community leaders in Paris, we were able to get permission from the Attorney General of France to enter the scene of the attack and collect the findings. We went to the supermarket late at night under the security of the French police and we worked to gather all the findings at the scene. Paris ZAKA volunteers only a year ago were trained at the initiative of Dr. Joel Mergui. The Consistory president and heads of Chevra Kadisha France helped us a lot on the scene despite the pain and their acquaintance with the murdered Hy"d."
Rabbi Zemach (Serge) Ben Naim, commander of ZAKA in Paris and president of the Chevra Kadisha in France, said: "This is very difficult attack in France and especially in the Jewish community, the French police at first did not understand why it is important for us to get into the scene and pick up the findings of the murdered hy"d and bring them to burial in Israel, but after we explained to them the importance of the Jewish tradition in doing so, we received the approval. What moved me is that when we arrived on the scene at the supermarket, hundreds of Jews from France stood outside, including secular people that have nothing to do with religion, when they saw the ZAKA team go into the supermarket to do their holy work, they applauded us, when they saw the true Jewish aspect, Jews who are doing "chessed shel emet" with their brothers' blood which spilled like water."
