As first reported today (Sunday) in Behadrey Haredim, officials in Hapeles claim that Yaakov Lavin will end his position with the newspaper at the end of 2014. Lavin himself denied this, but the recording being released tonight in the 'News Center', Aharon Weissenstern, 'Partners' project manager for Hapeles, known as one of the most prominent figures of the paper, is heard verifying the fact that Yaakov Lavin was fired, when he said, that his place is being taken by no other than the editor Nati Grossman.
In the recording, Weissenstern hints that 'There are other reasons for dismissing Lavin apart from the fact that the newspaper was unable to rise and its debts are only increasing, with more than two and a half months' lack of salary payment."
He also relates that, "there is an idea that heads of institutions will commit to pay monthly NIS 1500 to the paper," and states that, "I did not move Lavin, and I have no idea why they did it, he was a successful CEO."
The full transcript:
Questioner: I hear that the situation is not simple? People say that the newspaper in a difficult situation?
Weissenstern: The situation is very difficult, every month it gets worse! There are more debts each month! For two and a half months they did not pay salaries ...
Questioner: And that's why he left?
Weissenstern is evasive, saying that it has nothing to do with it. To the question whether there are successful people who run the newspaper, he says, I have not yet seen anyone more successful than him... There are no more successful people. I did not send him.
Questioner: Is the Rosh Yeshiva doing something about it?
Weissenstern: we're trying to do fundraising at the Rosh Yeshiva and are not so successful. There was an appeal last year, everyone has other things on his head, what do you want me to do? Pickpocket people? The situation is not simple! I run the "partners project", currently they think maybe every director of an institution will pay NIS 1500 per month. They are always trying to scrape ... I do not see that they found the solution for the paper to travel smoothly.
Questioner: R' Shmuel Markowitz did not try to help the paper?
Weissenstern: He should first help himself! I do not see that he gets along with himself. For half a year Ponevezh avrechim have not received his stipends. He does not manage by himself.
Questioner: Is the reason the moved Lavin due to the difficult situation?
Weissenstern: This is one of the reasons... because he was not able to generate money and lift the paper up in terms of advertising.
Questioner: Who runs the newspaper today, Nati's son?
Weissenstern: No. Nati himself manages the newspaper!
Questioner: And he can be both a CEO and editor?
Weissenstern: He can not! Did you ask whether he can or is he doing it?...
