Large police forces raided tonight (Sunday), the Mea Shearim suburb in Jerusalem, during the arrest of David Krois, son of activist of the Eida Hareidis Yoelish Krois.
Krois is suspected to have attacked 3.5 weeks ago the Jerusalem District Police, Rabbi Eliyahu Charlap, when he arrived for prayer at the Shtiblach in Mea Shearim neighborhood. The attackers pushed the rabbi who was dressed in police uniform out of the synagogue, took his kipaa, splashed water on him and called him "Hardak, Nazi, get out of here".
The civilian police who came to the neighborhood tonight was accompanied by military police forces, as David Krois is considered a deserter and therefore they came to arrest him together.
The forces had accurate intelligence on the location of the suspect, "the forces came to the neighborhood and set up directly in front of the Tchoratkov shull in the heart of Mea Shearim market, while the suspect was staying nearby at his grandfather's home," an eyewitness told Behadrey Haredim.
"When the troops arrived, he tried to escape, during the pursuit stones and objects were thrown at police and they had to use stun grenades to disperse the rioters".
Only after a while, when many residents gathered in the area and the forces drove them away again and again, they managed to get their hands on the suspect and he was arrested.
"Since the verbal assault of a soldier in uniform who came to his uncle's home, there was relative quiet in the suburb," said one resident, "this evening it was violated, big time."
