Escalation? Two border policemen stabbed near Lion's Gate

After the attack yesterday in which a girl of about 11 was seriously injured, another attack took place this morning: two police officers were stabbed near Lion's Gate in the Old City, their condition is mild. The attacker fled.

This morning, at around six am, during the dispersal of worshippers of Fajr (morning prayer) at the Temple Mount, a terrorist armed with a knife attacked a Border Policeman stabbed him in the neck. The incident took place near the police station at Lion's Gate, at the end of the Motta Gur path.

The border warrior and his colleague who was with him, struggled with the stabber, during the fight another fighter was injured his hand. The attacker fled. The wounded soldiers were treated and evacuated by MDA to Shaare Zedek Hospital in light condition: a young man of about 19, stabbed in the neck, and a 35 year old man stabbed in his hand.

It is still unclear if the perpetrator came out of the Temple Mount or one of the alleys of the Old City.

Jerusalem District Commander, Major General Moshe (Chico) Edry who is on the scene, commented: "This is a serious incident of police injury, and the Jerusalem police will lay its hand on the terrorist".

MDA paramedic Chayim Hyamson and paramedic Hanan Meir who treated the wounded said: "When we got there we saw two casualties, fully conscious, one of them about 19 years old with a head injury and the other wounded in his hand, we gave them first aid on the scene which included stopping the bleeding and bandaging, and evacuated them to hospital in a light condition."

"Anyone who consistently forbears violence and Islamic terrorism on the Temple Mount," said Yehuda Glick in response, "and prefers to exert his power against innocent Jews, should not be surprised that the cursed makes fun of him! A speedy recovery to the wounded, and in particular to the Israeli police."
