Drink and Relax: Coca Cola is building a plant in Gaza

Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories, announced today (Monday), that it has begun construction of a Coca-Cola plant in the Gaza Strip.

Today 9 trucks entered with parts of the first production line in order to produce and market beverages in the Gaza Strip.

The factory is built in the Karni industrial zone and is expected to produce about 120 jobs in the first stage. Later over a 1,000 employees will be employed, including the additional work circles generated around the plant operations.

Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoav Mordechai, approved the establishment of the plant in Gaza after examining the associated meanings. Construction of the plant is expected to take three years and cost is estimated at $ 20 million.

The trucks arrived from Jordan, through the Rabin Crossing and then entered the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing, by the Crossings Authority of the Ministry of Defense.

So far in the Gaza Strip a soft drink plant of Pepsi existed. The developers of the construction of the plant are Munib al-Masri, and Zahi Khouri who own NBC which is a Coca-Cola franchisee of the Palestinian Authority which owns three factories, in Ramallah, Tulkarem and Jericho. In addition to building the plant, NBC announced it will trigger social programs in Gaza.
