"You've reached the goal" – the way to navigate right in fundraising

Fundraising processes are very similar to navigating the roads - from preparation, going through the process itself to reaching the target.

If your goal is to become a thriving organization, especially in difficult times, it is important to know to navigate properly. Some of the work you can do yourself, and in part - you can use, just like on the road, the GPS software or applications like Waze - an external body, such as the fundraising center, which can show the best, the fastest and the most exact route to your destination. After all, just like on the highway, which is very fast – accurate navigation is critical so that you can reach the right target, and in the shortest time.

So how do you manage to navigate a safe way?

Step One - Plan where you want to go:
Even before your first step, it is important you create goals. Setting goals and priorities will help you determine the best way to reach them. By setting goals you can formulate a plan of "what to do", "when to do" and "how to arrive at your destination."

Step Two - just like on the road - look at the maps before departure:
Once there are goals, and before you go off – it is necessary and mandatory to detect all appropriate funding sources, in the public sector, philanthropic foundations, private donors and others. It is worthwhile for you to suit your goals to the appropriate funds. Good research will help you find the funds that fit your agenda more than others. "Reading the map" will help you understand to which funds and donors your association is appropriate (and not just who's right for your organization).

Step Three - plan your route:
You have set goals, you mapped the route to goals - now you need to create a strategy that will help create a "way story", to guide you all the way to the destination. Of course the story should include an option of "jams" on the way - that will force you to drive in alternative ways, to alternate and reach the target in new and surprising ways.

Step Four - learn exactly which stations you'll have to pass through:
As part of the way story - you should map all the stations through which you will have to go, milestones, targets on the way to the final destination, and of course - a detailed schedule.

Step Five - learn exactly what you will need to take:
The way is long and winding, and you'll have to use many accessories. As part of designing the track - check exactly what you will need to raise so that the path will pass most accurately. An inside person who will devote himself to the project, professional management of the organization, organized paperwork, clear agenda, an outside agency that can help in realizing fundraising, networking in the right funds – learning the necessary "codes", a correct filling in of performance reports – all these will help reach the target.

Step Six – on the way itself, have patience:
The submission process is complex and full of traffic jams and detours. But to get to the destination, the most important advice we can give is - do not accept a "no". Even if the jam is big, even if the road is blocked, do not give in – find an alternative set out, find another contact, file an application in a different way, and thousands of other ways - to help you get the wished for "yes", and the funding required.

Step Seven - Consult the professionals:
Just like the professional software such as Waze or other GPS software, a professional or a professional body, such as the Center for Fundraising can help you create an accurate track. Just like Wise - the professional is highly experienced, schooled with successes and failures, and knows the best ways at any given time. If your association is engaged in a proper activity and wants to prosper and continue to be successful and does not know how - please contact us for advice and let us be your Waze in the fundraising.
