An urban inspector of the Jerusalem municipality saved this afternoon (Sunday) a one year old toddler locked in a vehicle, on Harikma Street in Romema. The inspector broke the window and released the child when in good condition. His father had "gone out for errands in town."

This afternoon, at around 13:30pm on a routine patrol of the Jerusalem Municipality in schools and security facilities, an inspector was delayed by a girl who asked for his help. "There is a child here inside a locked car, do something", she asked the inspector.

"I got out of my car, I checked whether it is possible to open the car but it was locked," says Warden Shamir Gonen to Behadrey Haredim. The inspector began to call out loud "Whose car is it?" but did not receive an answer to his question.

Gonen did not think twice, and since the baby looked sweaty, he took a stone, shattered the windshield near the driver's seat, opened the back door and rescued the toddler who was strapped into the car seat, while sweaty.

Gonen was waiting for one of the parents. "It seemed like an eternity of time. After about 5 minutes the father came panting and hugged the child".

"Sorry, I quickly went for arrangements here," said the father to the stunned inspector, "he told that he had gone over to the national insurance offices nearby, and his wife was hospitalized. How could one forget a toddler in the car?? That was all he needed, his wife is hospitalized and the toddler..." says Gonen.
