"If the Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar runs for Likud, we'll support him," a senior haredi MK said yesterday (Thursday) to Behadrey Haredim.
Yesterday it was reported that former Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar, a senior Likud member, is considering running against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in the primaries race to the post of Likud Party chairman, to be held on thirteen Tevet.
A senior United Torah Judaism MK says tonight to Behadrey Haredim, "Gideon Saar will receive full support of the haredi factions in the Knesset, if he is elected to head the Likud and designated to form the next government.
"The Haredim well remember his great help to the haredi factions, his consistent position against the exclusion of haredim from the government, his fair approach and his war for Shabbat observance in Tel Aviv."
Earlier in the evening it was reported that key activists in the Likud movement turned to Saar and urged him to run in the primaries for the Likud leadership against Netanyahu. Saar previously received first place in the primaries and his chances of defeating Netanyahu are good. According to political analyst Yaakov Rivlin, such a request was also made by haredi factors, for fear that Netanyahu will be defeated in the general elections.
Saar retired for a timeout from political life two months ago, at a toast for the New Year held at Kfar Maccabiah.
