Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke this evening (Saturday) with US Secretary of State John Kerry, and asked to release the Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.
The Prime Minister spoke with US Secretary of State and told him, "Pollard's life in danger. After 30 years in prison it's time he will be released and will live the rest of his life as a free man."
Weekend reports came from the United States that Pollard was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Tonight it was reported that Pollard was out of danger and will soon be returned to the prison clinic for supervision.
Statement made to his wife about his medical condition, they also added that her husband probably will need surgery soon.
It was recently reported that Pollard's request to be released under restrictive conditions was thwarted by the administration, claiming that the release now, after 30 years in prison, will be a "disregard to the severity of the offense and getting the message of disrespect for the law."
Last month, 8 US officials familiar with classified material affair turned with a letter to President Obama and stated that the rejection of the application was based on a false claim and called on President Obama to release him immediately.
Other US officials have expressed surprise that the government was ready to release Pollard in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, but still claims that his release is now under restrictive conditions "lack of respect for the law".
In recent years, increased calls by senior government officials, security and first class sentence for Pollard's release on the grounds that the punishment is excessive and serving disproportionate, due to the fact that every other person who committed a similar offense served a much shorter term.
