A heated discussion was held tonight (Wednesday) in the Knesset, after the opposition collected 40 signatures of MKs and forced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to appear in the plenum and to respond to its members. Throughout his speech there were many protests from opposition members, six of whom were called to order and were removed from the hall.
The Prime Minister said: "First I would like to inform you that I wish to bring to the government a bill denying the right of residence of involvement in terror, incitement and violence. We are determined to fight terrorism force to restore security to the residents of Israel in general and the inhabitants of Jerusalem in particular, and not settle for just sending forces to prevent riots and demolition of houses of terrorists. State of Israel will not allow enjoyment of agitators and occupations terrorists and of course the terrorists and their families who support them, the rights arising from their being Israeli residents. Those who glorify murder and call them martyrs will not enjoy social security and all social benefits. There is no more absurd and this absurdity we're going to fix.
"National law as I bring it, the State of Israel is a Jewish and democratic state and one principle is not mounting on the other. Israel guarantees equal rights for individuals regardless of religion, race or gender. Israel is the national homeland of the Jewish people alone. This combination of national rights of the Jewish people and the individual rights of citizens goes right through basic documents that accompanied the creation of Israel. Balfour spoke about the need to establish a national home for the Jewish people, while maintaining civil and religious rights of all residents. British Mandate used the exact same terms. So too the same partition of the United Nations and the Declaration of Independence.
Why was it necessary to enact the Basic Law on Human Dignity and Liberty - since it was simple to begin with? The reason we enacted this law is because these things have ceased to be clear, there were those who called on this challenge, and it was necessary to enshrine these rights in the Basic Law. Once enacted the Basic Law an imbalance manifested in different situations. For example infiltrators who enter into the state of Israel, and the Palestinians who want family reunification. Their rights conflict with our rights as a nation state.
"An imbalance and therefore are also needed in the law human dignity and freedom and national law, in my opinion, would have passed them both at the same time but did not. There are those who challenge the national rights of the Jewish people, inside and out, those who did not see it holds his head in the sand. It was enough to hear the MK Ghattas does not recognize the right one millimeter Jewish state of Israel. There is a fundamental appeal and a challenge to the State of Israel being a nation-state. I understand why Hamas is opposed to national law but do not understand why some of the best my friends here are opposed.
"My faith that we should pass this law was not born yesterday and I am determined to advance the national law along the lines I bring. This law will thwart attempts to harm the Jewish character of the state, flooding Israel with Palestinians refugees and will deal with the phenomenon of infiltrators. This law is needed more than ever. Members of the opposition keep asking me what I did during my tenure, you have a simple formula: if you have not cleared you have not done ".
Netanyahu listed his accomplishments throughout his tenure, and repeated that among the opposition if "if you have not cleared you have not done".
"Bibi, Israel is stuck with you"
Opposition leader MK Yitzchak Herzog attacked the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his policies: "There is almost no media in the Western world that doesn’t follow the obsession with concern after the prime minister. You and we demand from the world especially that of the enlightened, see us as Western developed and advanced democracy. It seems again that you do not require yourself what you require our friends and allies around the world. Practice what you preach. This is not your nursery school.
"What was it so important at this time to bring up the national law and undermine the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence? The answer is that only the prime minister lacks self-confidence, no vision and no plan, needed to bring the national law to justify the obvious. The direct result of promotion this unnecessary law is not to reinforce the country - but the danger of demise as a democratic and egalitarian.
"Unfortunately it's not just national law; any thinking person asks himself every morning what new law Netanyahu and his colleagues will launch today for the public interest. Bibi, Israel is stuck with you and you are stuck without a truthful answer to anything. At the moment we are stuck with you, but soon you will not be. You finish the third time, by the grace that you received from the public, a resounding failure, failure hurts to each and everyone in the country.
"Members of Knesset, make no mistake. Benjamin Netanyahu is Feiglin and Feiglin is Netanyahu. Fanaticism is blind and dangerous even if it is painted with plastic or another it is the same blind and dangerous fanaticism. We have reached a time of decision. I say here upon the plenum, another term one and we're lost. Every moment that this government serves is a real danger to the country's future. You have to go Mr. Prime Minister. There is another option. We will replace the existing government and may be new hope for the country. "
Earlier, MK Zeev Elkin (Likud): "The cost of living is not born by itself. Some people in the structure of the Israeli economy are comfortable for them. I wonder if we will collect the same people put them at the polls, what the consequences will be. Most of them have implemented a large part of future work implemented. You all know that very well. Do not be hypocrites, you represent exactly these people you work with them, their monopolies you do not want to break. Talking a lot lately about the elections, came to a fascinating material prepared by the Labor Party as part of an election campaign that has the election year and this year it is in 2016 that appears in this material has been prepared and printed. You are the first who are afraid of elections. "
Following the discussion, a vote was held on the statement by the Prime Minister. 46 Knesset members supported his statement and 35 opposed.
