"We were punished because of the controversy, in shulls they persecuted anyone who thought differently," the widow of hakadosh Rabbi Moshe Twersky hy"d said last night (Tuesday).
Alongside the assembly in memory of the seven kedoshim of the massacre in Har Nof which was held at the scene in the Kehillas Bnei Torah shull in the neighborhood, a rally was held for the women of the neighborhood, to which the words of the speakers at the shull were broadcasted.
The women's rally was held in the Neve Yerushalayim hall, in which the wives of those killed hy"d spoke, and Rabbi Ron Ilan, a survivor of the attack.
Rebbetzin Bashi Twersky, widow of hakadosh Rabbi Moshe Twersky hy"d, Rosh Yeshiva Toras Moshe in Sanhedria Jerusalem, also delivered a speech.
"The murder was done with brutality which is hard to describe," she said, "Why? Why? Why inside the shull, during prayers? How can this be?
"I am a simple woman but when things are clear one doesn't need wisdom at all. The Sages say that Hashem punishes measure for measure. It's been a year that the fire of machlokes has been burning in our public. Day by day it becomes more terrible. Anyone who listens to another Gadol than my own, someone who belongs to another camp, it is a Mitzvah to be cruel to him, it's a Mitzvah to humiliate and degrade him. It is a Mitzvah to brutally harass a person. When we treat our brothers brutally, Hashem is cruel to us, and therefore Hashem's punishment was cruel, Hashem yerachem, how did the sanctity of a shull and the Amidah not protect us, how?
"In shulls and Batei Midrash they humiliated those who think differently, have a different opinion. Maybe that's why midas hadin harmed us! How did we think that our prayers on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur will be accepted in such a situation of dispute in prayer?
"I beg you with a crying and broken heart, from depths of the soul", asked Rebbetzin Twersky, "let us take upon ourselves to live in love with every G-d fearing Jew. There are differences in the details. Maybe victims were not in vain, if we behave with love one to another, Hashem will return to us in love and midas hadin will be removed."
