The US State Department referred to today (Monday) to the debate on Israeli nationality law and department spokesman said: "I hope that Israel will adhere to democratic principles."
"The president and the secretary of state ratified that Israel is a Jewish and democratic state," he added, "and all citizens must enjoy equal rights."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his determination to pass the national law.
At a Likud faction meeting today he said that, "It is important to exhaust the channels of dialogue, and I am willing to give a chance to dialogue, but I am determined to pass this law with or without consent. It is very important to ensure the future of Israel, the Land of Israel, and the State of Israel. The principles I am promoting express Israel's being a Jewish nation-state of his side retaining only the rights. Time will tell whether the elections are forthcoming.
