Rabbi Shmuel Goldstein, head of the Shas group at the Mir Yeshiva who was seriously wounded in the massacre that took place last week at Bnei Torah in the Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem, told this afternoon (Sunday) of the moments of terror and the miracle he experienced.

"I was praying, during the last blessing of Sim Shalom, and we heard shots. Everyone jumped down. The shots stopped and one of the terrorists made rounds with an axe and beat people up, I received three blows, on my back, head and ear, and I saw the other terrorist was reloading his gun so I was not afraid of him. The terrorist with the axe was with his back to me then so I pushed him down and his gun fell, "he said.

"It was a miracle," emphasized Rabbi Goldstein, "the second terrorist said, 'Get out of here, and I listened to him and rushed outside, a man who saved my life gave me his shirt and wrapped my wounds. I got into the ambulance and I heard the shots."

Son of Rabbi Goldstein, Mordechai, was with his father in the synagogue and was miraculously saved from the attack.

• Did you think about your son during those moments?

"Yes, in the ambulance I shouted 'Where is my son?' Then they told me that a boy of 12 managed to escape. I met my son the other day and I hope he'll be okay ".

To the question by Behadrey Haredim, Rabbi Goldstein said: "The members of the Mir group wanted to come to visit me. I said it's better to sit and learn. One of them came and told me they are studying hard there."

Rabbi Goldstein wanted to send a message to the people of Israel. "If we want God to save us, we as a people of Israel must keep the Sabbath." As for the possibility to come back to pray in the synagogue he said "When I was in intensive care I opened my eyes and I thought it was a bad dream. I do not know if I went back to the synagogue."
