Two residents of Beitar Illit caught after trying to smuggle 240 packets of cigarettes, tax free of 43 thousand shekels for them

240 packets of cigarettes were seized from two Beitar residents

Customs at the airport testers "Uvda" on Thursday foiled smuggling of 240 packets of different types of luxury cigarettes, smuggled into Israel by two friends, residents of Beitar Illit, while avoiding paying taxes.

The two returned on a direct flight from Moscow, after staying there only one night. At the end of border control, the two friends crossed the green channel customs area, beyond which means I do not have anything statement and tax debtor. They aroused the suspicions of customs and testers asked to reflect their bags.

We note that by law one can bring one packet of cigarettes tax exemption, beyond that, is required to pay import taxes. To the astonishment of the examiners, their luggage contained only 240 packets of luxury cigarettes such as: Chesterfield, Winston, Glamour, Rutmans, Marlboro, L & M, NEXT, etc. and no other personal equipment.

Smuggling suspects were questioned by investigators from the Special Unit of the Eilat Customs. The investigation revealed that all the cigarettes belonging to one suspects that the friend went with him to help "carry the loot." On the same day that the suspects were in Moscow they bought the cigarettes and returned to Israel through Uvda airport, they say because it is a small airport, passengers are not checked.

Cigarettes, for which the tax value is approximately ₪ -43,000, were seized and confiscated by customs. Now officials are considering the possibility to charge the suspects.
