"When a haredi woman complains of domestic violence, it's much easier for her to speak to a haredi investigator who knows the haredi sector and its needs," says one of those involved in the opening of a course for to the Haredi sector.
As part of the attempt by the Israeli Police to take care of the needs of the haredi sector, starting today (Monday) in Tel Aviv a unique investigators' course opens which is dedicated to the Haredi sector, joined by four men and 11 women, who all belong to the sector.
Yesterday (Sunday), after passing fitness tests and learning about the role of policeman and what is expected of him, the course group took on uniforms, after being trained as policemen and policewomen. It should be noted that some of the policewomen served a period at the Control Center of the police, and waited for the opening of the course.
Rabbi Asher Melamed, Central District Police Rabbi, is the one who traced candidates for the job and played an active part in setting up the course. One should note that the policemen and women are all academics and have a degree.
Freddie Kaminetsky, a policewoman who will begin the course, is a mother of seven children. "I worked as an emissary of Chabad around the world, and when I came back to Israel I was looking for something like this, work which will include a dimension of a mission," she said in an interview with Yael Dan on Army Radio. "I've been a policewoman for about seven months, and I think I found this box, in which I get a real sense of mission as well as making a living."
It should be noted that some of the haredi policewomen refused to be exposed at this point, and did not join the police photograph either.
