Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met yesterday (Tuesday) with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. Prime Minister Netanyahu said to UN Secretary-General that Iran continues to work towards achieving the ability to arm itself with nuclear weapons. In addition, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Gazans were taken hostage by Hamas and compared Hamas to ISIS. "Hamas performs a double war crime," he said, "using Gazans as human shields and directing its fire at Israeli residents. I'm not going to apologize that Israel has Iron Dome to protect the citizens of Israel."

Netanyahu complained that the Human Rights Council does not focus its investigation of how Hamas has used the United Nations to shoot at Israel, "the Council is biased against Israel and defends Hamas," he said, "there is no justice in that the practice towards Israel is different than that of any other country. Whereas 200,000 civilians were massacred in Syria there is no proportionality in the way the UN acts against Israel."

In addition, the Prime Minister pointed out that there was no change in the position he showed regarding a demilitarized Palestinian state that will recognize the Jewish state, subject to security arrangements that would allow Israel to defend itself against any threat, adding that "the conflict with the Palestinians is not about the settlements, but the very existence of the Jewish state."

Prime Minister Netanyahu also said to UN Secretary General that Resolution 1701 was violated by the continuing armament of Hezbollah.
