The State of Israel demands: Rabbi Berland in custody for Yom Kippur
In a month and a half will be discussed first extradition request • Sharon Nahari to behadrey haredim: still no extradition warrant against Rabbi
- Eli Shlesinger
- ז' תשרי התשע"ה
Is Israel doing everything so that Rabbi Berland will be placed under detention on Yom Kippur?
State of Israel, placed a request to the Dutch government, the hearing of the case of the community leader Rabbi Eliezer Berland, which will seek to appeal the court's decision to release him on bail, and will submit a request to stop the decision as to whether or not to be extradited to Israel. The message was received by factors immediately after Sabbath.
Does the fact that the extradition process hearing request was filed just before Rosh Hashana, say something about the time in question that there was no request to extradite the rabbi to Israel?
Sharon Nahari said to behadrey haredim, because until now there is no extradition warrant against Rabbi Berland with the Dutch authorities.
Rabbis appeal for the release of the request for hearing and determined until the day after his arrest on Wednesday. In addition, another hearing date has been set, extradition from the Netherlands as part of the State of Israel, in a month and a half. On request of the State of Israel, will be extended panel discussion of three judges, in contrast to the previous hearing was conducted before a single judge. The presence of this discussion, Israel probably will file an extradition order.
Recall two weeks ago the rabbi left South Africa and came to the Netherlands, where he was arrested at the Schiphol airport. Then he was transferred to the Amsterdam jail. The next day, the judge decided that there was no danger of escape, so that the rabbi was released on bail and depositing of his passport, under the prohibition of leaving the borders of the country, but within he can move freely.
As reported before the holiday, the Rabbi's associates were prepared in advance and prepared for Rosh Hashana a place for 200 followers and their families, a large tent was erected as well as catering service. Rabbi went to all the prayers and the meals, except on the Sabbath afternoon service – when he did not feel well and remained holed up in his room.
The lawyers, Sharon Nahari and Louis de Leon, have been making their way to the Netherlands, to prepare the rabbi's response for Wednesday.
