Nepal Chabad shaliach Rabbi Chezki Lifshitz was caught in the days before Rosh Hashana into a nightmare which ended only on the second afternoon of Yom Tov.
Instead of dealing in managing the large prayer services and meals, which were attended by hundreds of travelers who had come especially to stay at Chabad House which he manages, Lifshitz spent the holiday in jail in Kathmandu, due to a mistake by the official signing his visa.
Chabad House team of Nepal tried to fill the void and hold the prayers and meals as best they could, although everyone bore great concern for the safety of the devoted shaliach.
Eventually Rabbi Lifschitz was released on the second afternoon of Rosh Hashanah, after great efforts made by his wife, Chani Lifshitz, with the assistance of Chabad worldwide headquarters, which activated the Foreign Ministries of the United States and Israel. Those turned to the Nepal government calling on them to solve the problem and release the shaliach, and the government of Nepal did accept and ordered his release.
