A fire yesterday (Tuesday) in Williamsburg left four ultra orthodox families homeless.
Fire broke out at 7:30 pm on Flushing Avenue near Lee Avenue, a 4-story building. Rescue teams were called to the scene and found the building engulfed in flames. By the grace of God, the fire fighters were able to extract all the residents of the building.
Rabbi Mordechai Jungreis, who lives in the building, told Behadrey Haredim: "I was at home, when suddenly I heard the sirens and loudspeakers calling the public to leave their homes because of the fire. I looked quickly out of the window and saw heavy smoke, I ran out of the building and then I found out that a fire broke out on the basement floor and was spreading to the rest of the building. Outside was a mess, rescue volunteers and firefighters broke into the smoke-filled building to make sure no one is left in the apartments.
According Jungreis, "this building is home to large families, and they were with their children outside the building when they are very scared. Meantime, large forces of firefighters and ambulances managed to control the fire - before it could spread to nearby buildings. Thank Thank God no one was injured, but four apartments were burned completely, and the damage is huge. "
Finally he notes, "People brought food to the waiting families who wanted to enter the building to check the damage, the Fire Department closed the building and the families were forced to spend the night in the homes of neighbors and relatives. Currently remaining four families only with the clothes on their backs, everything is burned - holiday clothes, clothes for Shabbat and all property. "
Police are still looking into the circumstances of the fire.
