Exciting discovery: Israeli archaeologists have located the exact location of the gas chambers of Sobibor extermination camp in Poland. Next to the gas chambers, a wedding ring was found with the inscription: "Harei at mekudeshet li" (Behold you are consecrated to me).

Since 2007 Israeli archaeologist Yoram Haimi and his Polish partner Vitek Mazurek have been digging at the archeological site with the International Institute for Holocaust Research of "Yad Vashem", the "German-Polish Foundation" and Majdanek museum.

Now after eight years of excavations at the site, the exact location of the gas chambers has been revealed.

"We were surprised by the size of the structure and the state of preservation of the walls of the gas chambers. The most exciting moment was when we found the wedding ring near the gas chambers," says Haimi.

The Sobibor extermination camp is located near the village of Sobibor, in eastern Poland. It was established in April 1942 and about 250 thousand Jews were murdered in it.

After the rebellion of the prisoners in the camp, on October 14, 1943, it was dismantled.
